Foundation established to support local children

The Clara B. Farlow Foundation for Children is well on its way in its campaign to help Surry County children with major medical needs.

Started by Carole Farlow Vaughn, a resident of Surry County, the Foundation will provide financial assistance and support to families who have children under the age of 18 with serious physical or mental challenges and/or illnesses.

Company’s award benefits local children’s charity

For the past 17 years, Advanced Electronics Services, started by Steve and Leslie Cooke of Mount Airy, has stressed the importance of family.

On Thursday, AES was recognized for that mantra by a national labor and employment law firm, Atlanta-based Constangy, Brooks & Smith. The company was honored with the 4th Annual Human Resource Work-Life Balance Initiative Award in conjunction with National Work and Family month.

Foundation chooses first recipient

After several months of planning and fundraising, an organization that was founded last year to help local children recently selected its first recipient of aid.

Carole Farlow Vaughn, founder and director of the Clara B. Farlow Foundation for Children of Surry County, made a presentation to Nora Ferias for her 6-year-old daughter, Rut Vasconcelos.

Kincaid is latest helped by Clara B. Farlow Foundation

Since its inception in the spring of 2009, the Clara B. Farlow Foundation for Children of Surry County has helped eight children receive treatment for physical or mental challenges or illnesses.
